With a background in Hospitality Management, Marina held senior management positions at Aberdeen University, London University and the National Westminster Bank Tower London before establishing her own people development business in the Highlands in 1996.
Marina is an experienced Hospitality Assured (HA) Coach, helping over 40 businesses through the process, and an accomplished trainer and facilitator. Specialising in the people side of businesses, Marina has particular expertise and experience in creating innovative service development programmes and learning journeys, such as best practice seminars and benchmarking trips.
A Founding Director of the Right Direction Group, whose vision is "For the Highlands to be renowned for delivering an outstanding visitor experience," Marina is also a Director of the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards and a Board Member of the Chamber of Commerce.
JOHN BURCHELL, BA, FCCA, FIH, MIBC - Lead Consultant
Before founding his firm the Business Excellence Consultancy in 1998, John had a 30 year management background with the Post Office in operations, finance, IT and as MD of the in-house 400-seat restaurant and catering company, Quadrant Catering.
A Hospitality Assured Senior Coach, supporting over 300 businesses through the process, John has been a primary driver behind the methodology used within the HA projects in Scotland. A trained Excellence Award Assessor for Quality Scotland . John is a key player in the Highlands and Islands Continuous Improvement group as well as a certified accountant and former Investors in People assessor.
Specialising in the essential processes side of businesses, John's approach is fresh and forward-thinking with many clients engaging him on an ongoing basis to ensure their continued improvement is structured and mentored.
Born and raised in rural Inverness-shire , Ishbel has worked at management level with educational institutions including Robert Gordon’s University, and companies such as Baxter of Speyside and BP International Head Office.
Ishbel set up her own company in 2006, focusing on HA coaching and training in Food Hygiene, Health and Safety, Food and Health for the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland, and niche tourism.
Very much a people person, Ishbel is committed to people development, previously working with Springboard Scotland to promote hospitality as a first choice career. She thrives on developing good working relationships within the industry and promoting excellent customer service.
DONNA MAVER BA (Hons) - Consultant
Following a varied management career in country house hotels, Donna decided to diversify into providing training to colleagues within Hospitality and Tourism.
Subjects include practical skills training, supervisory and management development. Also involved in Food Hygiene, Safety and Customer Service Development.
Working closely with the industry is useful in keeping up to date with the ever demanding and changing industry.
JENNIFER BRYSON, BA, FIH, ABAHA - Consultant
Qualified in Hotel Management, Jennifer worked in renowned London hotels for several years before joining a college as senior lecturer in Hospitality Management. She also managed the college consultancy and training company, working on a range of briefs from across the tourism industry.
Former President of the Institute of Hospitality (1999-2000), Jennifer is a HA Coach and has worked in food tourism and general tourism business support as well as managing tourism projects for Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and food tourism projects for Scottish Enterprise. Jennifer also developed a new hospitality award for the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
With good interpersonal skills and a passion for new challenges, Jennifer firmly believes that people practicing excellence contribute significantly to the success of a business.
